Easy artisan Bread
There are a lot of recipes that pop up on Instagram for easy bread recipes . I’ve tried sourdough before but found the whole process long and tedious. With the horrible wet weather outside, today was a perfect day to give this recipe a try. I haven’t cut into it yet as I’m leaving it to rest , so I’ll update this when I have tried it .
The link to Instagram is here for a visual guide.
Ingredients
440g bread flour
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp fast action dried yeast
330ml warm water from the tap
Method
Mix the dried ingredients in a large bowl. Mix with the warm water until all the flour is mixed in . The mixture will be sticky but not too wet .
Cover with a tea towel and leave to prove for 1-2 hours until doubled in size and has little air holes on top and wobbles like jelly .
Use a spoon to scrape the sides of the dough from the bowl and on a well floured surface drop the dough onto the flour . Fold four times on each side then tuck it and turn it and make a nice round loaf Shape . Using the bowl you made the dough in , cover it for another 15 minutes .
Put your Dutch oven into the oven to preheat . I used a Le crueset type large casserole dish. After 15 mins transfer the dough onto baking parchment and very carefully bring the Dutch oven out and place the dough in . You can score the dough before this stage .
Cook for 30 minutes with the lid off and then take the lid off for the last 10 minutes until golden brown and crisp .
Leave to rest for at least 15 minutes before cutting on a baking tray .
I’ve just cut the bread and tried it . For my first attempt it’s very successful, but possibly needs a little more salt and a little less yeast . A lot of the recipes have a tsp of yeast not a tablespoon. But the top was crispy and the bread soft and fluffy. I’ll have a go with a different recipe soon. Let’s face it you can’t just become an expert bread maker , it takes time and effort and lots of experimenting.
