Nigella's Store Cupboard Chocolate Orange Cake
Ingredients
125 g butter
100 g good quality dark chocolate, broken into pieces
300 g orange marmalade
150 g castor sugar
2 eggs, beaten
150g SR flour
a pinch of salt
Method
Preheat the oven to 180ºC
Place the butter in a largish heavy-bottomed saucepan and melt over low heat. When it has nearly all melted, add the chocolate pieces, give them a stir and allow them to sit for a minute. Take off the heat, and stir with a wooden spoon until the chocolate melts and the chocolate-butter mixture is completely smooth and without lumps.
Next, add the marmalade, sugar, salt and beaten eggs, and stir till everything is combined well.
Beat in the flour little by little until everything well mixed.
Pour into a greased 9-inch baking tin and bake at 180ºC for 50 minutes to an hour or until a skewer inserted comes out clean.
made yesterday for Mum in law's birthday cake, super easy!!
ReplyDeleteExcellent. I could just eat a piece now with a cup of tea. I ended up giving most of it away so I wouldn't eat much :(
ReplyDeleteHee hee! I am hoping she has sent a slice or two back with my hubby later so I can see if it tastes as good as the house smelled when it was baking!
ReplyDeleteYou'll have to make another one if she doesn't
DeleteDid any of you find this recipe awfully sweet? This is not a very big cake but it contains not only 300g of marmalade but also 150g of sugar!!! It is too much sweetness.. I made it yesterday, added only 130g of sugar but even then it is far too sweet! I think that it actually doesn't need any sugar at all!
ReplyDeleteHi, sorry I've just seen your comment. Yes that does seem an awful lot of sugar, especially with the sweetness from the chocolate and the marmalade. I can't say that I found it too sweet though. I wonder if it's just not the cake for you?
DeleteHave you tried it again with even less sugar ?
